Data management, mapping and assimilation tools
Objectives : To make data on coralligenous organisms coherent, inter-calibrated and formatted.
To draw a dynamical map of these data and their links together, based on a complex system approach.
The main outputs will be: a dynamic mapping of
— existing meta-data, and
— CIGESMED data set, a methodological document for,
— the mapping analysis,
— the evaluation of the data robustness
— the effectiveness of indicators
The proposed tools are the knowledge trees (KT)
which started out as a concept by Michel Serres, philosopher, science historian and Stanford University professor (1992). It is based on the mapping of knowledge or skills in a manner that shows the interdependency of knowledge objects. The concept relies on mapping knowledge in a group, structuring the knowledge objects to form a tree-shaped representation that shows the groups’ knowledge assets. The concept relies on a separation between knowledge objects and their possessors, whilst giving one the ability to see what parts of the tree are knowledge objects possessed by one (or several) of the group members. The KT is a representation of knowledge assets at a given time. From that point of view it has the powerful potential of a managerial tool.
