Description
L’inconnue (The unknown):
Site? coordinates: 42°43.664’N / 9°27.927’E
Orientation: gently eastward slope
Description: Eastward coralligenous strips with a high coverage of photophilic and invasive species (Caulerpa racemosa var. cylindracea).
This site is made of small successive steps with small crevices (mainly fist size crevices).
Principal sampling zone: M. truncata is easily found in the holes between 32 and 37 meters deep whereas L. cabiochiae is absent. According to local people, L. cabiochiae can be found from 45 meters deep.
Site des baptêmes du CPB (Initiation site of CPB):
Site coordinates: 42°41.459’N / 9°27.047’E
Orientation: fairly homogeneous in-depth site, joined on the dike on the West side and on a rocky wall on the North.
Description: set of several meters rocks placed in a Posidonia sea grass. The whole is marked out by a sand strip on the South. The depth goes from 3 to 8 meters (there is a marine anchor of several meters at 5 meters deep). This site is used by the PCB for diving initiation.
Principal sampling zone: between 3 and 8 meters deep. Samples were taken in crevices around and at the basis of rocks by Dorian and mainly on North-facing sides by Romain.
La roche à Lolo (Lolo’s rocks):
Site coordinates: 42°44.170’N / 9°28.017’E
Orientation: bottom gently sloping toward the East.
Description: gently-sloping sandy bottom at around 30 meters deep. The site is made of two big parallel pear-shaped rocks, separated by a canyon (with eastward spikes.
Principal sampling zone: between 23 and 31 meters deep. Samples were mainly taken on the South-facing side of the most Northern rocks because the other rock was covered with vegetation (Caulerpa racemosa var. cylindracea).

Petit tombant (Small wall):
Site coordinates: 42°39.003’N / 8°56.918’E
Orientation: vertical slightly angled wall facing North North-West.
Description: rocky shoal on a flat sandy bottom. The deepest zone (40m deep) shows a big overhang. The other part of the wall is slightly angled, and water is quite bright. The rocky wall shows a high roughness in some places.
Principal sampling zone: between 32 and 40 meters deep. Samples were taken on the North side, in the cave and inside the crevices of the North-West side. Low in Lithophyllum individuals.
Sec du Naso (Naso’s shoal):
Site coordinates: 42°38.948’N / 8°56.875’E
Orientation: vertical wall facing North North-West.
Description: huge wall facing-North leading to a rockfill placed on a flat sandy bottom. There are many holes, breaks and crevices on both the rockfill and the vertical wall.
Principal sampling zone: from 30 to 33 meters deep, at the basis of the facing North wall and inside holes, breaks and crevices between the rockfill and The North-West side of the wall.
Bruschettu :
Site coordinates: 42°38.721’N / 8°55.781’E
Orientation: vertical wall facing North
Description: close to the coasts at the North of “Bruschettu” island and at the West of Pietra island. This site is made of a North peaking canyon between Pietra’s island and « Brocceto » island. This canyon leads to a vertical facing-North wall. There are many holes of different sizes (from 10 cm to 3 m).
Principal sampling zone (first dive): in the break and on the East side of the wall between 15 and 26 meters deep.
Principal sampling zone (second dive): West side of the wall between 15 and 33 meters deep. We found Caryophila inornata individuals in small overhangs at the top of the wall.
Grand tombant (High wall):
Site coordinates: 42°39.029’N 8°56.803’E
Orientation: vertical wall facing North North-West.
Description: rocky shoal showing a North-facing wall with a break almost parallel to the wall. The wall is slightly turning on its West part leading to a North-West orientation. There are many holes; some of them can be quite big. (from 10 cm to 3 m).
Principal sampling zone: samples were taken between 22 and 34 meters deep in the break and the crevices of the North and North-West walls.
La calanque aux baptême (Initiation Calanque):
Site coordinates: 42°38.747’N / 8°56.059’E
Orientation: mainly South-facing walls with appendices facing South-West and South-East.
Description: site close to the South coasts of Piana Island at the North of Pietra Island. It shows rocky walls surrounding big Posidonia sea grass. There are horizontal breaks on the walls.
Principal sampling zone: breaks inside the walls between 1 and 8 meters deep.
