Sampling to study the intraspecific variability of Myriapora truncata, Lithophyllum stictaeforme/cabiochae and Caryophyllia inornata species
CIGESMED Program – Corsica, France
Mission report by Romain DAVID and Dorian GUILLEMAIN
Summary
The aim of this study is to understand the population structure of the coralligenous species by studying the intraspecific diversity of the populations and their connectivity.
The principle of the study of their connectivity within the Mediterranean Sea is based on the analysis of the dissimilarity of genetic markers. At least thirty specimens of Myriapora truncata, Caryophyllia inornata, Lithophyllum stictaeforme/cabiochiae are collected from different sites.
In four days, 9 dives were realized on 8 different sites in two areas (Ile-Rousse and Bastia). 6 of this dives were realized between 30 and 40 meters deep, 1 between 20 and 30 meters et 2 in less than 10 meters deep. This dives permit to collect respectively 207 samples of M. truncata, 89 samples of L.cabiochiae/stictaeforme and 31 samples of C. inornata.
